About Taxwire

Taxwire is solving a forever problem. Anthropic might eat half the SaaS companies. AI could automate jobs. They might even cure death. But taxes are forever.

We’re tackling one of the largest markets in the world. → Indirect taxes (sales tax, VAT, etc.) are one of the most complex and least sexy forms of taxes in the world. Today, businesses globally remit $600B+ in sales tax and ~$5 trillion in VAT every year. The average $50-100M business will manage sales tax filings across 40+ US states and 20-30 countries. The problem space is deeply complex and ripe for automation and better products.

Our customers trust us to fully manage their tax compliance. → Most finance, accounting, and tax teams are not experts in sales tax. They also have 12 other responsibilities to manage, that don’t include thinking about indirect tax compliance. Taxwire exists to be their trusted partner in managing their compliance from end to end.

What we’re building to serve our customers. → To achieve this, we’re rebuilding a global tax platform from the ground up: the data layer, the tax calculation engine, the filing infrastructure, tax remittance, customer dashboards, accounting + billing workflows, and AI-powered the services that surround it.

Our team has deep industry expertise + startup experience → Our engineering, product, tax team’s built the tax products at Stripe, TaxJar, and Avalara prior. Others started VC-backed companies prior to joining. Others helped scale other startups in the Office of the CFO. Everyone’s here to win and build something that endures.

Where we’re at today → Recently raised our Series A, have hundreds of customers across SMB and mid-market, and are growing fast. 50%+ of our customers are ripping out legacy incumbents to switch to us. We serve customers in tech, but also in non-tech industries like construction and manufacturing.

Our customers → We serve finance, accounting, and tax teams. Some of our customers you’d know like Omni, Pulley, Modal, Spellbook, and Middesk. Others you wouldn’t because they’re far outside Silicon Valley or tech (e.g. construction and manufacturing). To date, we’re very proud to have had 0 churn.

Our investors → We’ve raised ~$25M from Headline, XYZ Ventures, Vinyl, Recall Capital, J Ventures, Nomo Ventures, Siqi Chen, Michael Bock, Justin Mares, Mike Rosengarten (OpenGov co-founder), Erik Torenberg, and dozens of other operators, CFOs, and accountants.

Careers @ Taxwire

The role

We’re looking for a full-stack engineer who cares deeply about winning and solving customer problems. You’ll ship new products end to end and embed in our users’ workflows to automate, streamline, and delight wherever possible.

What you’ll build.

Examples of what you’d build / where you’d contribute at Taxwire if you joined today.

New products

You'll work directly with Andrew (CEO) and Kent (Head of Product) to ship new customer-facing features and product lines. Think leveraging agents to automate specific high-friction workflows customers deal with today to bigger swings that change what customers expect from compliance providers and help us expand into new customer segments.

Our tax filings engine & managed compliance services

Fully automated sales tax compliance runs on a stack of half-manual workflows that mostly work until they don't, and the failure is expensive. You’ll help us build the automation layer that helps  us scale without sacrificing accuracy.

The core work is the filing pipeline: calculating what's owed, preparing returns, and submitting them to state portals across every jurisdiction we cover. Some states have APIs. Many don't. The automation has to handle both. Navigating portals, reconciling confirmations from customers, managing payment infrastructure, and surfacing only the genuinely ambiguous cases for human review instead of routing everything there by default.

Beyond submissions, there's the operational layer that surrounds them: pulling new customer registrations in from external platforms, automating the data and approval workflows our tax team uses to review filings before they go out, and building the internal tooling that gives them visibility and control as the volume scales. You'll work closely with Marissa and the broader tax ops team — they run the operations end-to-end and they'll tell you exactly where the automation breaks down.
